Asking for Help

“You are never strong enough that you don’t need help.”

This is one of my favorite quotes from Cesar Chavez, an American civil rights, Latino and labor leader.

Like many people, earlier in my life, I didn’t want to show weakness by asking for help. I had to experience frustration, failure, panic attacks and physical pain to realize that I really did need help. The people I asked for help showed compassion, invested in me and made a tremendous difference in my life and my outlook.

I ask for help all the time now because it’s incredible to receive the gifts of caring and wisdom from others.

As a side benefit, being vulnerable allows me to build new relationships, have deeper friendships and often times gives me the chance to return the favor when the people around me have the courage to ask for help.

Coaching Tip: Asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness.

Do! Great! Things!
